HIGHWAY 401 CLOSED YESTERDAY FOR COLLISION

West bound lanes of Highway 401 between Furnival Road, West Elgin and Orford Road, Chatham Kent were closed yesterday September 17th, 2014 for approximately 3 hours to allow police to investigate a collision involving a pick-up truck towing a camper trailer and a tractor trailer.

The collision occurred at 10:11am on the West bound lanes of Highway 401 west of Furnival Road, West Elgin. The driver of a 2002 Ford Pick-up truck towing a camper trailer lost control of the vehicle and clipped a tractor trailer that was passing the pickup. The pickup truck then spun out and rolled onto its side.

The driver of the pick-up truck a 70 year old woman and her 70 year old female passenger, both from Amherstburg, ON had to be extricated from the vehicle by West Elgin Fire and were then transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer a 61 year old man from Dallas Texas was not injured in the collision.

As a result of the investigation police have charged the female driver of the pick-up truck, Anne PURTELL age 70 from Amherstburg, ON. She has been charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

West bound lanes of Highway 401 were reopened at approximately 1:15pm.
