(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – At approximately 1:15 p.m. on October 6, 2014 members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Middlesex Centre Fire Department, and Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the report of a serious motor vehicle collision on Medway Road, east of Clarke Road.
The investigation revealed that a silver Chevrolet car travelling westbound on Medway Road entered the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass a transport truck, which was also travelling westbound on Medway Road. The driver lost control of the car on the south shoulder of Medway Road, and struck the trailer of the transport truck. The car then collided with an unloaded dump truck, which was travelling eastbound on Medway Road. The car and the dump truck collided in the eastbound lane.
The 18 year old female driver, and lone occupant of the car, Cassandra HAWKINS, of Woodstock, Ontario, was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries. She succumbed to her injuries and is deceased. The driver and lone occupant of the dump truck was a 68 year old male from South Huron, Ontario. He was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver and lone occupant of the transport truck was a 29 year old male from London, Ontario. He was uninjured in the collision.
The OPP Technical Traffic Investigation (TTCI) Team attended the scene and assisted with the investigation.
Police closed Medway Road from Clarke Road, east to Olalondo Road (near Prospect Hill Road), to complete their investigation. The road was re-opened at approximately 6:40 p.m.
