(PEMBROKE, ON) During the week of the 9th of March to the 15th of March members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment investigated 252 incidents including domestic disputes, thefts, threats, and motor vehicle collisions.
Motor Vehicle Collisions
During the week of the 9th of March to the 15th of March members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment investigated 28 motor vehicle collisions. 24 collisions were property damage and 4 were personal injury motor vehicle collisions.
RIDE
During the week of the 9th of March to the 15th of March members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment conducted 8 RIDE programs. The OPP is reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight or use public transit.
Threats / Breach of Probation
On March 12th police were on patrol on Pembroke St. West in the City of Pembroke when they were approached by a male party. The male made threats to damage a property on MacKay St. in Pembroke. As a result Thomas HEANEY age 49 of Pembroke was arrested and charged with uttering threats to damage property and breach of probation. Heaney was held for a bail hearing.
Stolen Vehicle
On the afternoon of March 13th police received a report of a stolen vehicle from a residence in the City of Pembroke. The vehicle was observed a short time later on Round Lake Road in Laurentian Valley Township. Police activated their emergency lights and siren in an effort to stop the stolen vehicle. The driver failed to stop and police did not continue to follow the suspect vehicle for public safety reasons. The stolen vehicle was later located parked in front of a residence in the City of Pembroke. As a result of the investigation a 19 year old male from Pembroke was charged with the following Criminal Code offences
· Theft Over $5000.00
· Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
· Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
· Flight from Police
· Mischief Under $5000.00
The 19 year old male was also charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act for Failing to Comply with a Disposition and as a result his name will not be released. The suspect was held for a bail hearing.
Family Dispute
On March 13th police were called to a family dispute at a residence in the City of Pembroke. As a result a 14 year old male was arrested and charged with two counts of assault, two counts of mischief under $5000 and one count of breach of probation. The young person was held for a bail hearing.
Thefts
On March 10th police responded to a report of shoplifting at Walmart in Laurentian Valley Township. Walmart reported the theft of electronics. As a result Hans POIRIER age 38 of Pembroke was arrested and charged with two counts of theft under $5000 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. POIRIER was released on a promise to appear with a future court date.
On March 11th and March 13th police were called to Giant Tiger in the City of Pembroke regarding reports of shoplifting. Housewares and soft drinks were reported stolen. Both incidents are under investigation.
On March 14th police responded to a report of theft from Staples in the Pembroke Mall in the City of Pembroke. Staples reported that an electronic device was stolen and that the suspect fled on foot towards Pembroke Street East. The suspect is described as a 20 to 30 year old Caucasian male with a heavy build. The suspect was wearing a red and black hooded sweatshirt, a grey toque, blue jeans and white running shoes. The investigation is continuing.
Domestic Disputes
During the week of the 09th of March to the 15th of March members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP detachment investigated 17 domestic disputes. As a result:
· One adult male is charged with four counts of Fail to comply with Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code.
