(WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON) – On August 7, 2015 at approximately 9:15 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Wellington Road 6 near Side Road 7 in Wellington North Township. Officers investigated the driver of a 2002 Volkswagon that entered into the checkpoint. While speaking with the driver, police detected the odour of alcohol on his breath and a Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.
The driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
49-year-old Brian MATHESON of Holstein has been charged with Over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on September 11, 2015 to answer to his charge.
