Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend, here are some examples:

Aug 21:

– Police received a complaint of a partially submerged vessel on Rice Lake east of Paudash Island at 8:35am. The marine unit located a blue/green pontoon boat and determined that it had been stolen from a Hastings area dock sometime since Wednesday Aug. 19th. The boat appeared to have been stripped of its equipment including a 90 horsepower Yamaha outboard motor and stereo. Investigation ongoing

– At 4:10pm an officer stopped a blue Dodge Dakota truck in Campbellford. The driver’s licence was the subject of three separate suspensions. The 45 yr old Seymour Twp man was charged with driving while under suspension, no insurance, using plates not authorized for the vehicle and also issued a 3-day licence suspension for having between .50-.80mg of alcohol in a 100ml of blood (warn range). The truck was towed from the scene.

– Ongoing neighbour dispute in Brighton over a strip of grass on the property line that both believe they should be mowing. Today an air horn was used to upset the other. Officers spoke to both persons and directed them to the civil courts to settle their differences.

– Police were asked to check on a large youth party at a home in Hamilton Twp just north of Cobourg for possible underage drinking at 11:21pm. Officers found the party to be well supervised by responsible adults, no underage drinking occurring.

Aug 22:

– A Campbellford gas station customer had his wallet and cell phone stolen after leaving them on the counter after paying for gas. Both items were later recovered by the complainant using an internet application that locates iPhones. $60 cash was missing. Investigation ongoing.

– Police were called to a Seymour Twp home to investigate a collision that occurred on Goacher Rd involving a rolled pick-up truck. The owner, 19 yrs old, had left the vehicle in his driveway then fled prior to police arriving. The OPP Emergency Response Team and K9 assisted detachment officers in searching for the missing man. He eventually returned to the residence and was taken to the hospital as a precaution for possible injuries sustained in the collision. He was subsequently charged with Careless Driving and left in the care of medical staff.

– Hospital staff contacted police hours later to notify that the above driver had left the hospital without the consent of the doctor. He was located in downtown Campbellford, arrested for his own safety and after consultation with the attending doctor, held until he was sober. He faces a further charge of being intoxicated in a public place.

– Officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a red Mitsuishi that had struck some guard rails and landed in the ditch at 11:17pm on County Rd 25 near Dingman Rd in Cramahe Twp. The driver was found to have been drinking, was arrested and taken to the Brighton detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, James SUTHERLAND age 28 of Rosseau, Ontario is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 9, 2015

Aug 23:

– Report of an unwanted patron at a Colborne business at 1:47am. He was sent home by officers. No charges resulted.

– Loud party complaint on Cornish Hollow Rd Hamilton Twp at 2:19am. All was quiet when officers arrived.

– Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Hamilton Twp home. Officers determined that the visiting female was upset that the male did not wish to see her any longer. She eventually left after speaking to police. No charges resulted.

Northumberland OPP also conducted four RIDE programs, investigated 11 motor vehicle collisions and 32 traffic related complaints.
