(EMBRUN, ON) – The Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating several incidents after responding to 379 calls for service from Sunday, January 3rd to Saturday, January 16th. Among those occurrences were the following; domestic disputes, frauds, thefts, drug offences and one impaired related incident.
As a result of those occurrences, one female and four males were charged with various offences.
Domestic Disputes
Russell County OPP officers investigated 14 domestic disputes during the past two weeks. A couple from Russell were charged with spousal assault and the male was also charged with domestic mischief and overcome resistance by attempting to strangle another person.
Alcohol related incident
On Thursday the 14th of January, OPP received a report of a suspicious male in Embrun. Provincial Constable Anne-Christine Gauthier located a vehicle near Notre-Dame Street. The male driver had been drinking and was arrested after failing a roadside alcohol screening test. Following breath tests at the detachment, Michel Burelle, aged 58 was charged with driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in L’Orignal on January 27.
Traffic violation
On January 5, OPP officer was conducting radar enforcement on Highway 417. A 25 years old male from Ottawa was arrested and charged for speeding 164km/h in the posted 100km/h zone on Highway 417.
On January 14, Provincial Constable Mike Cunning was at a scene of a collision on Highway 417 when he observed a van travelling at a high rate of speed. He arrested and charged a 57 years old male from Montreal for speeding 158km/h in the posted 100km/h zone.
During the evening of January 15, Provincial Constable Luc Lecuyer was conducting radar enforcement on County Road 17near Rockland. He arrested and charged a 47 years old male from Russell for speeding 144km/h in the posted 90km/h zone.
All the above males had their vehicles impounded for 7 days and their driver licences were suspended.
