(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at approximately 8:16 am, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thunder Bay Fire Department and Superior North Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a multi vehicle collision that occurred on the Kaministiquia River Bridge on Highway 61.
The driver of a north bound Toyota Corolla lost control of the vehicle and collided with a Dodge truck that was stopped on the bridge, awaiting the traffic lights on Broadway Avenue. The Toyota Corolla then entered the south bound lane and collided with a Honda Odyssey and a Dodge Dakota.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota Corolla had to be extricated from the vehicle.
In total, seven people were transported to hospital by ambulance with non life threatening injuries.
The Toyota Corolla sustained extensive damage and the other vehicles sustained moderate damage.
There are no charges pending.
