Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend. Here are some examples:

Feb 19:

A Hamilton Twp resident contacted police to report her husband missing since last night. Officers located the man in the morning at a friend’s home. He explained that he decided not to drive after a night of drinking.

A Campbellford resident reported falling victim to a ‘Microsoft scam’. He allowed remote access to his computer leaving himself vulnerable to all his personal information being taken. The fraudster requested that he attend his bank and withdraw $1,000 and send it to them via Western Union. The caller did not send the money and cancelled/changed all his banking information.

At 7:47pm a red Mazda pickup truck was stopped at a RIDE check on Burnham St in the Camborne area of Hamilton Twp. The driver was found to have been drinking and failed a roadside test. He was arrested and taken to the Cobourg detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Colin Lewis JONES age 80 of Hamilton Twp is charged with having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on March 9, 2016.

At 9:11pm police received a complaint of an erratically driven silver Chev Cavalier coming from the Trenton area. Officers observed the car entering the Brighton area on County Rd 2 and stopped the vehicle resulting in the driver being arrested for impaired operation. Joel Donald ROBERTS age 59 of Brighton is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg in 100ml of blood. He was held at the Brighton detachment until sober then released with a court date of March 1, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brighton.

Feb 20:

Report a rabid raccoon on County Rd 22 near Day Rd in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. Officers located the distressed animal and determined that it posed a threat to public safety and euthanized it.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance in Cramahe Twp where one partner stated they were done with all of this” and “going to end it.” Officers determined that this was not a threat of self-harm
