15 Year Old Charged With Flight From Police, Dangerous Driving, etc

(TOWNSHIP OF CHATSWORTH, ON) – Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a 15-year old youth with several driving offences after he was warned not to operate his dirt-bike on public roadways.

On August 4, 2016 at approximately 1:49 p.m., Grey County OPP responded to a report of an abandoned dirt bike on private property on Side Road 30 in the Township of Chatsworth. The youth, who had moved the dirt bike to an undisclosed location prior to police arriving, was observed having a verbal altercation with the property owner.

The youth was cautioned as to his behaviour and told that he was not permitted to operate the dirt-bike on public roadways. A short time later, the officer observed the youth riding his dirt-bike at a fast rate of speed west bound on Side Road 30. The officer activated the cruiser’s emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle; however the vehicle failed to stop and entered a trail at the end of the roadway.

Later the same evening, the youth attended the Chatsworth OPP Detachment at which time he was arrested. A bail hearing was scheduled for August 5, 2016. The accused, who resides in the Municipality of Grey Highlands, was charged with the following offences:

CC 249.1(1) Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer

CC 249(1)(a) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle.

CAIA 2(1)(a) Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance.

HTA 7(1)(b) Drive Motor Vehicle, No Plates.

HTA 32(1) Drive Motor Vehicle, No Licence.

HTA 7(1)(a) Drive Motor Vehicle, No Permit.

HTA 104(1) Fail to Wear Proper Helmet on Motorcycle.
