(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – On July 31, 2016 at approximately 2:45pm an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle on Highway 35 south of Lindsay for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) violation.
Following an investigation, the driver, 30 year old Zeyu ZANG of Markham, was charged with the following offences:
Speeding contrary to section 128 HTA
Driving While Under Suspension contrary to section 53(1) HTA
Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle contrary to section 7(5)(a) HTA
Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA)
Resist Peace Officer contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
Fail to Comply with Recognizance (3 counts) contrary to section 145(3) CCC
Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest contrary to section 403(1)(d) CCC
The accused was held in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
