YOUTHS CAUGHT INSIDE VEHICLE BY OWNER

(BRIGHTON, ON) – At approximately 4:00 am on Tuesday March 4, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a female that her husband had seen two youths inside their vehicles and he had caught one on of them in the driveway in the Municipality of Brighton.

OPP went to the Towerline Road residence where they found an older male wrestling with a male youth on the ground. Police handcuffed the youth and placed him in the OPP cruiser. The victim told OPP that he and his wife were awakened by their dog barking and saw a light on inside their vehicles. The victim managed to get outside without being noticed and apprehended one of the two youths. The second youth fled from the area, but was later found at his residence matching the description provided by the victims. It was determined that $12.90 had been taken from one of the two vehicles in the driveway. Both youths were arrested and transported to Brighton OPP detachment.

David WILSON, 18 from Brighton, Ontario has been charged under the Criminal Code with trespassing at night, theft under $5,000 from motor vehicle and two counts of obstruct peace officer. The accused was released on a promise to appear and an Undertaking given to an Officer in Charge to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Tuesday May 6, 2014 in Brighton, Ontario.

A 17 year old male youth has been charged with theft under $5,000 from motor vehicle, trespassing at night and fail to appear – summons – Identification of Criminals Act. He was released on a promise to appear and an Undertaking given to an Officer in Charge to appear in Youth Court on Monday April 14, 2014 in Brighton, Ontario. The youth cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Anyone who has not reported any vehicle entries to OPP in the Codrington area in the Municipality of Brighton in recent weeks is asked to please come forward and contact the Brighton OPP detachment at 1-613-475-1313 as this investigation is continuing.
