(Town of New Tecumseth, ON)- Starting in February 2015, the Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have received multiple high risk calls which have required a high level of Police and Emergency Service response.
Members of the Nottawasaga OPP and Central Region Crime Unit have been investigating these incidents and as a result of their investigation have executed a search warrant on May 27, 2015 at a residence in the Town of New Tecumseh, ON. Police seized electronics to continue their investigation.
The Nottawasaga OPP have arrested a 16 year old male from the Town of New Tecumseth, ON with the following charges:
Public Mischief (Sec 141, Criminal Code of Canada)
Mischief (Sec 430, Criminal Code of Canada)
Common Nuisance (Sec 180, Criminal Code of Canada)
False Messages (Sec 372, Criminal Code of Canada)
Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) the name of the youth involved will not be released. This investigation is ongoing and if further details become available, the media will be advised. The male youth has been held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie, ON.
The Ontario Provincial Police would like to remind the public that placing a false call to Emergency Services for any reason other than a true emergency call is a criminal offence under the Criminal Code of Canada.
When Emergency Services are falsely contacted, they respond as per identified protocols. This can result in unnecessary costs to society and utilizing resources such as specialty units within their organization.
Public safety remains the OPP’s primary focus.
