(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – A male driver was arrested and charged following a motor vehicle collision on private property in the 21000 block of Rebecca Road, in the Municipality of Thames Centre.
In the early morning hours of August 24, 2014, Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a black Chevrolet pick-up truck, which had reversed and struck two pedestrians.
An 18 year old female pedestrian from Middlesex Centre, Ontario, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She has since been released. An 18 year old male pedestrian from Lucan Biddulph, Ontario, did not suffer any injuries in the collision.
The driver fled the scene on foot. With assistance from the OPP West Region Canine Unit, Middlesex County OPP located the driver, a 17 year old from Middlesex Centre, Ontario. He was not injured in the collision.
The police investigation revealed the driver had consumed alcohol. He was arrested, and transported to a Middlesex County OPP detachment.
The driver was charged contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada with: Fail to Stop at the Scene of An Accident, and Driving While Ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle.
The youth was released by way of a Promise to Appear, and is scheduled to appear in a London Court on September 22, 2014.
The young person cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
