Yelling And Swearing At Restaurant Staff Results In Criminal Harassment Charges

(WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON) – On March 29, 2015 at approximately 7:45 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a 9-1-1 call regarding an irate customer that was threatening and verbally abusive towards staff at an eating establishment located on Main Street North, Mount Forest in Wellington North Township.

Investigation revealed that a male customer attended a fast food restaurant and placed a food order that was expected to take approximately 15 minutes to prepare. As the food was being prepared the customer became upset that it was taking too long as well as one of the food items he had ordered was sold out and was asked to pick a substitute.

The male began yelling and swearing at the employees causing them to feel threatened and fearful for their safety. The male continued to yell obscenities at the employees as he left with his order. Police located the male at his residence a short time later and placed him under arrest.

Michael PAYNE age 50 of Wellington North Township has been charged with Cause Disturbance and Criminal Harassment X2 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on June 26, 2015 to answer to the charges.
