(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), County of Brant detachment were called to a residence on Beverly Street in St George in the County of Brant in response to a property owner locating a suspected World War 2 military ordinance while doing renovations.
The County of Brant OPP responded to the residence and initially evacuated nearby residences and temporarily closed the road between Reid Street and Burt Road on Beverly Street.
After consulting with Canadian Military experts the residents have been returned to their homes and the roadway has been re-opened. It has been determined that there is no risk to the public to be in the nearby homes or travel on Beverly Street.
The County of Brant OPP will remain on scene ensuring the safety of the public awaiting the attendence of Canadian Military personnel.
The OPP want to remind the public that if you locate anything that appears to be or that you suspect to be a military ordinance DO NOT” touch the item leave the immediate area and call police from a place of safety.
