On December 11th, the Wingham Police Service changed their dispatch centre to the Owen Sound Police Service. In December of 2011, the Hanover Police gave notice that they would be closing their dispatch centre on December 31st, 2012.
As a result of this closure Wingham Police requested a costing estimate from the Owen Sound Police Service. The switch over took place smoothly yesterday. Now when Wingham residents call for police, they will be speaking to an Owen Sound dispatcher. The phone number (519) 357-1212 remains the same. In the event of an emergency please call 911.
