(CRAMAHE TOWNSHIP, ON) – Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) on Friday February 15, 2014 when a motorist was arrested for impaired driving and was found with a handgun in his possession.
OPP officers were conducting a RIDE spot check on Percy Street just north of Keeler Road in Colborne at approximately 12:56 pm when an orange 2 door Pontiac Sunfire was stopped. The lone male driver exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. The officer initiated an investigation into the male’s condition and as a result the male failed the roadside screening device. The male was arrested and as a result was found to be in possession of a handgun in his jacket.
William Eugene MAYNARD, 28 of Colborne, Ontario has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
Operate motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams blood alcohol content.
Carry a concealed weapon
Unauthorized possession of a firearm
Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing on Tuesday February 18, 2014 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, Ontario at 1:30 pm.
