We all know that Wingham is the highest taxed ward in Ontario, and North Huron has ballooning staffing expenses while their workload decreases. The other day we witnessed a group of volunteers maintaining our park by cutting out dead branches by the trail, etc. etc. It was hot and sweaty work, no wonder town staff won’t do it, even though we pay them too. It’s sad that we can’t even pay town staff to care.
It seems these volunteers have just given up waiting for town staff to do their jobs and decided to do it themselves. This is common in Wingham as everyone has lost faith in council and staff, and know that if you want something done, you have to do it yourself. NOTE: We already pay town staff to maintain our parks and trails!
Volunteers had to trim weeds in streets and parks, paint fire hydrants, prune trees/shrubs in our parks, pick up litter, and even remove road kill from side streets. All jobs we pay town staff to take care of, but they refuse to do.
Maybe it’s time to bring back all the volunteers council and staff fired and replace some department heads.
