Vehicle Splits In Two After Hitting Tree – Name Of Deceased Withheld Pending Next Of Kin Notification

(COUNTY OF BRANT, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) County of Brant Detachment is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision at a Newport Road, County of Brant, Ontario address.

On Friday, August 5, 2016 at approximately 1:07 a.m., officers were on patrol when they observed half of a motor vehicle on the side of the road.

Through the course of investigation, it has been determined that a maroon coloured vehicle was travelling southbound on Newport Road when the driver failed to negotiate the turn in the roadway. The vehicle subsequently left the road and entered the east ditch and collided with a tree.

As a result of the collision, the front and rear of the vehicle separated, with the front portion coming to rest in a field. The male driver of the vehicle suffered life threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the attending coroner.

Identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting with the investigation.

Newport Road is closed between Old Greenfield Road and Sour Springs Road to allow for further investigation.

The investigation is continuing.
