(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Thursday April 03, 2014, around 4 a.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol, observed an extremely fast moving full sized passenger van, on Perth Road 121 south of Millbank.
The van proceeded onto Perth Road 119, Perth Line 56 and drove south on Perth Road 107. Just south of Hampstead the officer was able to lock the van speed on his police radar. The speed registered was, 137 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. The van was pulled over in Amulree where the driver was spoken to.
As a result of travelling 57 km/h above the speed limit, the 31 year old male driver from London has been charged with “race a motor vehicleâ€Â. The driver was unable to produce the necessary documentation for the vehicle and was also charged with “fail to surrender permit for motor vehicleâ€Â, and “fail to have insurance cardâ€Â. He was issued a summons to appear in Stratford Court on May 13, 2014, where he has to answer to the charges.
His driver’s licence was seized and has been returned to the Ministry of Transportation as it is now suspended for seven days. The Ford Econoline Van, registered to a poultry company, was towed from the scene, and has been impounded for 7 days. The driver and the seven passengers contacted a local cab company to transport them from the scene.
