(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Tuesday, April 8 2014 at approximately 4:10 pm, officers from the Upsala Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as well as Upsala Volunteer Fire Department responded to a tractor trailer unit with an auto carrier that was engulfed in flames on Highway 17 approximately 30 kilometres west of Upsala.
The tractor/cab was not destroyed as it was able to be detached from the trailer/auto carrier. The majority of the vehicles on the carrier were destroyed. There were no injuries reported. Highway 17 was closed for approximately one hour.
DRUG SEIZURE
Also on Tuesday, at approximately 9:10 pm, an officer from the Upsala OPP Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17.
The police investigation resulted in the arrest of the driver and a subsequent search of the vehicle. The search led to the discovery of an amount of prescription opiates and a small amount of Ritalin pills with an estimated street value of $7755.
Sherri Lynn MCQUEEN, 42 years of age, from Thunder Bay was charged with the following offences; Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code, as well as, Possession of a Schedule l Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, and Possession of a Schedule lll Substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
She was held in custody for a video court appearance.
