Upper Ottawa Valley Weekly Release

(PEMBROKE, ON) During the week of the 11th of May to the 17th of May members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment investigated 327 incidents including mischiefs, domestic disputes, and motor vehicle collisions.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

During the week of the 11th of May to the 17th of May members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment investigated 13 motor vehicle collisions. All 13 collisions were property damage collisions with no injuries reported.

RIDE

During the week of the 11th of May to the 17th of May members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment conducted 51 RIDE programs. The OPP is reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight or use public transit.

Impaired/Over 80mg

On May 15th police received a complaint of a possible impaired driver. Police located the vehicle on Pembroke St. East in the City of Pembroke and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. As a result Francois PETRIN, age 38, of Gatineau, Quebec was charged with impaired driving, driving with over 80mg of alcohol in his blood, breach of undertaking and two counts of breach of recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code. PETRIN was held for a bail hearing.

Mischief

On May 13th police received a report of intentional scratches made on a parked motor vehicle in the parking lot of Valour School in Town of Petawawa. The investigation is continuing.

On May 16th police responded to a report of mischief to a residence in the City of Pembroke. Sometime overnight a rock was thrown at the house causing minor damage. A suspect has been identified and the investigation is continuing.

Assault

On May 14th police responded to an altercation between two males on Pembroke St. West in the downtown core of Pembroke. The males were in a verbal confrontation which turned physical when one male assaulted the other. Andrew Neil LEWIS age 30 of Petawawa was arrested and charged with one count of assault contrary to the Criminal Code. LEWIS was released on an undertaking and a promise to appear with a court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on June 16th 2015.

Shoplifting

On May 16th police responded a report of shoplifting at Walmart in Laurentian Valley Township. It was reported that a female suspect selected a quantity of video games and left the store without paying for the merchandise. A female suspect has been identified and the investigation is continuing.

Theft

On May 14th police received a report of an overnight theft of three weed trimmers from an unlocked shed at a residence in Laurentian Valley Township. The makes of stolen trimmers were Home Lite, Stihl and Husqvarna. There are no suspects at this time.

Domestic Disputes

During the week of the 11th of May to the 17th of May members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP detachment investigated 16 domestic disputes. As a result,

· One adult male was charged with Assault contrary to the Criminal Code

· One adult female was charged with Assault contrary to the Criminal Code

· One adult male was charged with Uttering Threats contrary to the Criminal Code

· One adult female was charged with Assault contrary to the Criminal Code

Online Citizen Self Reporting

The OPP is reminding the public that people now have the option to report select occurrences to police from the convenience of a computer or mobile device. Using the Citizen Self Reporting system, specific incidents can be reported online at your convenience without attending a detachment or waiting for an officer. The system can be used to report:

Theft Under $5000

Mischief / Damage to Property Under $5000

Mischief / Damage to Vehicle Under $5000

Theft from Vehicle

Lost / Missing Property Under $5000

Stolen Licence plates or validation stickers

Driving complaints

Do not use this system if it is an emergency. If it is an emergency, call 9-1-1. Unfounded / Accidental 9-1-1 calls

The Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment continues to receive a significant number of unfounded 9-1-1 calls. The OPP would like to remind residents of the following tips to help reduce accidental 9-1-1 calls:

Do not pre-program 9-1-1 into your home or cell phone

Store your cell phone in a protective case

Screen lock your cell phone

In the case of an accidental 9-1-1 call it is important to stay on the line and tell the call taker what happened. It is OPP policy to dispatch an officer to every 9-1-1 call with an identifiable location to ensure the safety of the person who has made the call. OPP reminds you that the toll-free number 1-888-310-1122 is available for 24/7 non-emergency calls in Ontario.
