(PEMBROKE, ON) During the week of the 25th of May to the 31st of May members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment investigated 274 incidents including impaired driving complaints, thefts, domestic disputes, and motor vehicle collisions.
Motor Vehicle Collisions
During the week of the 25th of May to the 31st of May members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment investigated 18 motor vehicle collisions. 17 collisions were property damage collisions and 1 was a personal injury collision.
RIDE
During the week of the 25th of May to the 31st of May members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Detachment conducted 8 RIDE programs. The OPP is reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight or use public transit.
Impaired/Over 80mg
On May 30th police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Church Street in the City of Pembroke. As a result Sandra Marie DICK age 44 of Pembroke was charged with impaired driving and for driving with over 80mg of alcohol in her blood contrary to the Criminal Code. DICK was released on a promise to appear with a court date of July 7th at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
On May 30th police received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver on Beachburg Road in Whitewater Region. A short time later police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Beachburg Road. As a result Samuel MARQUARDT age 26 of Pembroke was charged with impaired driving and for driving with over 80mg of alcohol in his blood contrary to the Criminal Code. MARQUARDT was released on a promise to appear with a court date of June 23rd at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
Breach of Probation
On May 26th officers responded to a report of a traffic hazard involving a male walking into traffic on Pembroke St. West in the City of Pembroke. The male was located and found to be under the influence of alcohol contrary to the conditions of his probation. As a result Joshua Keith HILTS age 19 of Pembroke was charged with one count of failing to comply with his probation order. HILTS was arrested and later released on a promise to appear. HILTS’ court date is set for June 23rd at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
Drug Possession
As the result of a RIDE program on May 31st police have charged a passenger in a motor vehicle with a drug offence. Luc Alexandre BROMLEY age 18 of Whitewater Region Township is charged with possession of a schedule I substance – morphine – contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. BROMLEY was released on a promise to appear with a court date of July 7th at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
Break, Enter and Theft
On May 27th police responded to a report of a break, enter and theft from a residence in the City of Pembroke. While the homeowner was away unknown persons entered the residence and stole a laptop computer. The investigation is continuing.
Theft
On May 27th police received a report of an overnight theft of a side mirror from an electric scooter parked outside a residence in the City of Pembroke. The investigation is continuing.
On May 28th a bird decoy was reported stolen from a clothesline at a residence in the City of Pembroke. There are no suspects at this time.
Domestic Disputes
During the week of the 25th of May to the 31st of May members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP detachment investigated 13 domestic disputes. As a result,
· One adult male was charged with Breach of Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code
Unfounded / Accidental 9-1-1 calls
The Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment continues to receive a significant number of unfounded 9-1-1 calls. The OPP would like to remind residents of the following tips to help reduce accidental 9-1-1 calls:
Do not pre-program 9-1-1 into your home or cell phone
Store your cell phone in a protective case
Screen lock your cell phone
In the case of an accidental 9-1-1 call it is important to stay on the line and tell the call taker what happened. It is OPP policy to dispatch an officer to every 9-1-1 call with an identifiable location to ensure the safety of the person who has made the call. OPP reminds you that the toll-free number 1-888-310-1122 is available for 24/7 non-emergency calls in Ontario.
