(WASAGA BEACH, ON.) On August 27th, 2013 members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police received a report from a male who attended Detachment and advised that he received an expected delivery from China on August 26th, 2013 at his residence on Leo Boulevard. Also that when his wife a 41 year old female opened up this parcel and reached in her arm was covered with a white unknown substance that reacted with water and caused injury to her arm. This female attended hospital was treated and returned home and the following day police was contacted.
As a result of an OPP investigation it has been determined that the “white unknown substance†was actually “Desiccantâ€Â, which is contained in packages and used to absorb moisture when parcels are shipped. A couple of these packages containing “Desiccant†broke open when the parcel from China was damaged possibly in transit. Desiccant if exposed to skin and moisture causes a burning sensation.
The Police investigation into this incident is concluded.
