(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On June 27, 2014 at 6:15 pm, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to Pickerel Lake, Quetico Provincial Park to investigate the report of a canoeist falling out of his canoe and failing to resurface.
OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) were called to assist the local detachment members in their investigation and arrived on scene on June 29, 2014. On June 30, 2014 at approximately 5:00pm, OPP USRU officers recovered the body of the missing canoeist.
The deceased has been identified as Jason Phillip PRYSTAY, age 24 year of Oliver Paipoonge, Ontario.
OPP is continuing to work in consultation with the Coroner’s Officer to determine the location, date and time for a post mortem examination.
