Update: OPP LOOKING FOR CHILD IN MAGNETAWAN RIVER – Child recovered

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) – On Sunday, August 24, 2014, shortly before 7:30 p.m., members of the Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident where a 7 year old boy fell into the Magnetawan River.

After extensive search of the Magnetewan River, OPP officers with the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit recovered the child body on August 26, 2014 at approximately 1 pm. He was located in approximately 11 feet of water, 217 metres below the dam.

At the time of the incident, Korbin SOUTH had been playing in the area with other children before falling into the river and being swept away by the current. The investigation is ongoing and police do not believe foul play was a factor.

The OPP would like to thank all the volunteers that assisted during this tragic incident.
