(WEST NIPISSING, ON) – On July 19, 2014 at 11:53 p.m., officers from Warren Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a marine collision on Lake Nipissing. A vessel with four occupants struck a rock. The operator and one passenger were ejected. The passenger was able to reboard the vessel while the operator could not be located. None of the involved parties were wearing life jackets.
West Nipissing Fire Service, West Nipissing Police Service, Anishinabek Police Service, OPP and local volunteers responded and began a search for the missing male. Emergency Medical Services also attended and transported one female to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The OPP continues to investigate with the assistance of the Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI), and Marine Units.
On 20 July, 2014 at approximately 12:30PM the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) recovered the body of the missing male.
The male has been identified as 32 year old Eric Levac of Lavigne.
