Update: Homicide Investigation

An ongoing sudden death investigation has turned into a homicide investigation in the area of North Street and Grove Street in the City of Barrie. A 51 year old Barrie male has been arrested and is currently under police custody at Royal Victoria Hospital for mental health concerns.

The 52 year old victim, a Barrie man has succumbed to his injuries and a post mortem is scheduled to occur on Monday November 4th 2013 at the Coroner’s office in Toronto. The investigation is still in the preliminary stages and the next of kin has not been notified at this time.

At 11:30pm on Saturday November 2nd 2013 two citizens waved down a passing Ontario Provincial Police car regarding a 51 year old male in distress. Barrie O.P.P. contacted Barrie Police Service to attend the area of Georgian Drive near Royal Victoria Hospital. Investigation revealed the male was involved in a previous disturbance call at 9:30pm in the area of North Street and Grove Street. Police cleared the initial disturbance call without incident.

Barrie Police Service would like to remind the public there is no public safety concerns and are actively investigating the matter. The investigation is still in the preliminary stages and as the investigation progresses we will provide more information.
