(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is now in a position to identify the driver of the 2007 GMC pick-up which was involved in a fatal collision on Friday, September 6, 2013 on Southgate Rd. 10 in the Township of Southgate.
The deceased has been identified as Donna EVANS, 51, of Guelph, Ontario. A post mortem examination was conducted at Hamilton General Hospital. The cause of death was consistent with drowning.
At approximately 6:56 a.m. on Friday, September 6th, Grey County OPP received a report of a pick-up truck in the water off of Southgate Rd. 10 in the Township of Southgate. A person was observed in the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Police arrived and observed a pick-up truck submerged in the Saugeen River, south of Southgate Rd. 10, just east of Southgate Side Road 7.
The OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit attended and removed the lone, female, occupant from the vehicle. She was deceased.
Investigation revealed that the vehicle, 2007 GMC pick-up truck was travelling westbound on Southgate Rd. 10 when it left the roadway. The vehicle proceeded down the embankment on the south side of the road and entered the water (Saugeen River).
The OPP West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit is assisting with the investigation.
