(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated an incident at a Norfolk County Road 45, North Walsingham, Norfolk County, Ontario address.
On Monday, August 18, 2014 at approximately 7:04 p.m., Norfolk County OPP, Norfolk County Fire Services, Norfolk County Paramedics and Air Ornge responded to a farming incident.
Through investigation, it has been determined that a 56 year old male was operating a three-wheeled fertilizer spreader and had a seasonal worker as a passenger that was assisting. Both were travelling north bound through the tobacco field, exiting at the end of the tobacco rows.
The operator continued north bound and for unknown reasons left the field and continued down a large embankment for approximately 75 feet before entering a large pond and overturning. The seasonal worker had jumped from the equipment and immediately ran to a nearby farm to call for assistance.
Norfolk County Fire Services assisted in removing the male from the water however he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The deceased has been identified as 56 year old Cyriel D’HULSTER, of Norfolk County, Ontario.
The Ministry of Labour and Ministry of Environment have been notified.
