Occurrence Type: Update-Arrest made for Poppy Donation Box Thefts

Barrie Police Service had received reports of six Poppy Donation Box thefts from Tim Horton’s restaurants and various variety stores since November 8th, 2014. Police have collected several of the internal surveillance videos which depicted the same male and female committing these thefts.
Barrie Police Service posted the suspects’ images on the website. Barrie Police Service received several tips about the suspects’ identities and places frequented. A 38 year old Barrie man and a 33 year old Barrie woman were identified as the two culprits.
Several officers began searching for the suspects. Shortly after 10:00pm the suspects were located at a business at Mapleview Drive West and Essa Road. The two parties were arrested. The male was charged with three counts of Theft Under $5000 and the female was charged with four counts of Theft Under $5000. Both accused were held for a bail hearing. Police anticipate both accused will be facing an additional two counts of Theft Under $5000 for the remaining thefts after some supplementary investigation.
