(ORILLIA, ON) – The Orillia Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two people for leaving their dogs unattended in hot vehicles without proper ventilation.
On July 7, 2014 at approximately 3:22 p.m. the Orillia OPP responded to an animal complaint at a business off of Murphy Road. The complaint was in relation to a dog that was left unattended in a vehicle and that appeared to be in distress. Upon arrival police located a dog in a vehicle which had its windows down approximately 2 inches. The interior of the vehicle was very hot and the temperature outside was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius.
A second vehicle was also located at the same location with a dog in distress. The windows of this vehicle were down approximately 2 inches and the dog was panting.
The owners of both pets were charged under the Orillia City By-Law for (Cause an animal to be confined in a vehicle without proper ventilation) with a fine of $485.00.
The Orillia OPP would like to remind pet owners that it is their responsibility to ensure that pets are properly cared for while kept in their vehicles on hot days.
