On January 21, 2014, police responded to a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham in regards to a theft complaint. At this time, an employee reported that a man was just in the store and when he left the security alarm sounded. The employee reviewed video surveillance footage and observed that the man stole two portable welders valued at approximately $1200.
Through investigation, police identified the man responsible. Yesterday morning around 11:00 a.m. police found the 41-year-old Chatham man sitting in a car on Semenyn Street in Chatham with a 55-year-old man of no fixed address. The Chatham man was arrested for theft under $5000 and possession of property and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000.
With the assistance of the Police Dog Services Unit, suspected crack cocaine was located in the vehicle.
Both men were further arrested and charged with drug possession. Both men have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
