(Havelock Belmont Methuen Twp., ON) – At approximately 3:12 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, officers from Peterborough County OPP were called to investigate and allegation of an assault on George Street in the Village of Havelock.
Upon arriving at the scene OPP officers were advised by several people of a confrontation that had occurred in which several people had been assaulted by the same male suspect.
Officers conducted an investigation and determined that a 49 year old male resident of Seymour Township had become involved in a physical altercation with his 43 year old ex-wife. The victim’s 17 year old son and a 27 year old male, passerby had attempted to come to the assistance of the victim, were then assaulted by the suspect.
OPP arrested the suspect and he was placed in custody. At this time a second suspect a 52 year old male resident of Seymour Township attempted to intervene in the arrest and was taken into custody after a brief struggle.
Two of the victims received medical treatment at the scene, with the 17 year old male victim received medical treatment at Campbellford Hospital as did one of the arresting officers.
As a result of the investigation a 49 year old Seymour male has been charged with 3 counts of Assault and a 52 year old Seymour male has been charged with Obstruct Peace officer and Assault to Resist Arrest.
Both suspects were released from custody with a future court date of September 19, 2013 to appear in Peterborough Courts.
