(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON.) – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County detachment has charged two males as a result of a Robbery investigation at a Concession Road #2, York, Haldimand County, ON address.
On Friday May 1st, 2015 at approximately 2:30 pm police were contacted by a concerned citizen after their vehicle had been stolen at gun point.
Investigation revealed that two unknown males attended the Concession Road #2 address and were in the process of stealing a car when the owner approached in a pickup truck. The truck was approached by the suspects and a rifle was pointed at the driver who exited the vehicle. The suspects fled the area in the pickup truck. The pickup was located abandoned at a Haldimand Hwy #54 address and the suspects were observed fleeing the area on foot crossing the Grand River. A short time later a 2013 Ford SUV was reported stolen from a River Road, York, Haldimand County, ON address.
The OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) responded to the area and conducted a search for the suspects with negative results.
During the investigation stolen property which included firearms were recovered and discovered to have been stolen from break and enters in the Niagara Region on Friday May 1st. A Chevrolet SUV was also recovered which had been reported stolen from Durham Region.
As a result of the wide spread crime spree the investigation came to a conclusion with the assistance of Niagara Regional Police, Hamilton Police, Halton Police, Brantford Police, Six Nations Police, and Project Shutdown officers.
Two males were then identified and warrants for arrest were issued.
With the assistance not only of the police, but also the media and public both males were arrested.
Charged with numerous criminal offences which include Robbery Using a Firearm, Assault with a Weapon, Pointing a Firearm, Uttering Threats, Break and Enter, Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000, and Mischief is 25 year old Robert RYAN of no fixed address and 31 year old Brent STAATS of Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation. Both are currently in custody and are to appear in Provincial Court, Cayuga, ON at a later date to answer to the charges.
