(Elgin County) Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a serious head on collision which occurred on Saturday September 14, 2013 at approximately 9am. The collision occurred on Pioneer Line 200 metres west of Dunborough Road, West Elgin.
Police investigation revealed that a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Pickup truck being operated by a 69 year old West Lorne man was travelling westbound on Pioneer line when the pickup truck crossed over the centre line and struck head on an eastbound 2011 Chevy Cruz being operated by a 49 year old West Lorne woman.
Both vehicles came to rest in the south ditch and both sustained major front end damage. Both drivers had to be extricated from the vehicle by Fire Services.
The driver of the Dodge pickup truck was transported by land ambulance to Four Counties Hospital and later airlifted to London’s Victoria Hospital. He is listed in critical condition with life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chevy Cruz was airlifted directly from the scene of the collision to Victoria Hospital. She is listed in serious but stable condition.
There were no other passengers in either vehicle.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
