Truck Driver Stopped While Talking On Cell Phone In West Perth

(WEST PERTH, ON) – Driver inattention poses a serious threat on our roads.

Shortly after 1:00 p.m. on January 23, 2019, a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Perth County Detachment observed a transport truck travelling on St. George Street in the Municipality of West Perth. The driver was observed talking on a cell phone and was stopped by police.

Dwayne LIPSKIE, 48-years-old, of Kitchener was charged with driving a motor vehicle on a highway while using a hand-held wireless communication device and was issued a Provincial Offence Notice.

Under new penalties introduced in 2019, drivers are subject to a fine of at least $615 and as much as $1000, 3 demerit points and a 3-day suspension for first-time offenders.
