(Quinte West, ON) – On November 15th, 2016, officers from the Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the RBC on Dundas St West in Trenton in relation to a robbery where the suspect was described as being heavy set, dark hair with facial hair and wearing a Blue Jays ball cap and dark clothing.
After investigation by police it appeared that this suspect was also linked to robberies in other jurisdictions. As a result, Kingston Police Service, York Regional Police, Napanee OPP, Durham Regional Police Service and Quinte West OPP worked as a multi-jurisdictional investigative team in an effort to identify the suspect.
The robberies took place at the following banks between August 25 and December 16, 2016: National Bank in Kingston (August 25), Bank of Montreal in York (August 30), Royal Bank in Napanee (September 29, 2016), Royal Bank in Oshawa (October 15), Royal Bank in Trenton (November 15), Bank of Montreal in Toronto (November 25), Royal Bank in Bowmanville (December 16) and Royal Bank in Cobourg (December 16).
On December 16, 2016, the investigative team were notified of the robbery in Cobourg, implemented a coordinated response and located the suspect travelling eastbound Highway 401, west of the City of Trenton. The accused was subsequently arrested without incident.
Tristan MAROIS DROUIN, age 30, of Rue Du Huard, Gatineau, Quebec is charged with eight (8) counts of Armed Robbery and was held in custody pending the outcome of a bail hearing at Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville on December 19, 2016.
The positive outcome of this investigation was the result of a collaborative effort by members of the Ontario Provincial Police, Durham Regional Police Service, Toronto Police Service, York Regional Police Service, Kingston Police Service and Cobourg Police Service.
