(CHATHAM, ON) – On Saturday April 30th, 2016 around 3:00 p.m., the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information of a single tractor trailer collision on Highway 401 near Bloomfield Road.
Investigation revealed the tractor trailer entered the centre median, veered across the eastbound lanes and rolled over in the ditch on the south side of Highway 401. The transport truck was hauling rubber retread and as it rolled over, all the contents of its load spilled out into the ditch. The driver of the truck was partially ejected and pinned under the truck. The driver was transport to Chatham hospital then airlifted to a London with life threatening injuries. The driver has since been upgraded to stable condition. The investigation is continuing and charges are expected to be laid.
The two left lanes in both directions of the highway were blocked for approximately four hours for the clean-up of the vehicle and debris.
