Train Vs Snowmobile Collision

(CHAPLEAU, ON) – On March 11, 2015, at approximately 8:15 a.m., members of the Superior East Chapleau Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a collision on the C.P rail line within the Chapleau Township, the collision involved a C.P train and a snowmobile.

Investigation revealed that the operator of the snowmobile became wedged into the train track while attempting to cross resulting in a collision with an oncoming Locomotive.

The operator of the snowmobile was charged under the Motorized Snowmobile Act of Ontario with the following offence,

– Driver of motorized snow vehicle shall enter or cross at an angle of approximately 90 degrees to the direction of the railway contrary to Regulation 804 section 14 (2).

Police are reminding snowmobilers the danger of riding near train tracks and to avoid rail lines when possible.
