Trafficking Charges Laid In Clinton

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Two males are facing numerous criminal code charges, including charges for trafficking drugs following an early morning traffic stop in Clinton on December 20, 2015. Shortly after 4:30 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed the driver of a Saab sedan fail to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Park Lane and Albert Street. The officer followed the vehicle a short distance and then he initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Orange Street and Wellington Street.

Upon speaking with the driver it was learned he was failing to comply with his court imposed 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew. As a result the driver was promptly placed under arrest. Later, while speaking with the male passenger officers observed in plain view a quantity of suspected methamphetamine.

Both the occupants and the vehicle were searched incident to arrest. As a result of the search officers found the occupants to be in possession of cocaine, methamphetamine, cannabis marihuana and drug paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking. In addition, they were both found to be in possession of .22 calibre ammunition which was a violation of both of their prohibition orders.

As a result, the driver Steven NICHOL, 43 years of age from Malahide Township is facing the following charges: Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Marihuana) for the Purposes of Trafficking Under 3KG, Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Cocaine) for the Purposes of Trafficking, Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Methamphetamine) for the Purposes of Trafficking, Possession of Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order, Fail to Comply with Probation Order – 5 counts and Fail to Comply with Undertaking – 2 counts. He remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for December 22, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.

Also charged is the passenger Michael VAIL, 30 years of age from London. He is facing the following charges: Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Marihuana) for the Purposes of Trafficking Under 3KG, Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Cocaine) for the Purposes of Trafficking, Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Methamphetamine) for the Purposes of Trafficking, Possession of Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order and Fail to Comply with Probation Order – 3 counts. He also remains in custody with a court appearance scheduled for December 29, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
