TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO IMPAIRED, RACING AND DRUG CHARGES

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On August 13, 2014, a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Harwich Road.

Just before 4:30 a.m., the officer observed an eastbound Ford Flex approaching his location at a high rate of speed. The RADAR registered a speed of well over the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr.

The officer conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. Further investigation led to the seizure of a small amount of suspected marihuana. While the officer was speaking with the male driver, it was determined that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages. Subsequent tests indicated that the driver was over the legal limit.

As a result, 27 year old Hope DUBE, from Kitchener, has been charged with the following:

Possession of Marihuana, under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Driving While Ability Impaired, under the Criminal Code of Canada

Driving With More Than 80 mgs Of Alcohol In Blood, under the Criminal Code of Canada

Race a Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days, as per statute.

The driver is scheduled to appear in a Chatham court on August 28, 2014, to answer to the charges.
