TRACTOR TRAILER COLLISON CAUSES HIGHWAY 401 CLOSURE – UPDATE #2

(BROCKVILLE,ON.) On the 27th of September 2013 at about 1:00 AM officers from the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were called to a collision on Highway 401 eastbound involving two tractor trailers. One of the transports was fully engulfed in flames.
Investigation revealed that a tractor trailer travelling west in the eastbound lanes on highway 401 collided with an eastbound tractor trailer.
The wrong way tractor trailer, driven by a 34 year old male from Quebec was subsequently charged with careless driving. The eastbound tractor trailer which became engulfed in flames was driven by a 41 year old male from Brampton.
Drivers involved from both transports sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.
The collision, located between the two Brockville exits caused a closure of both the east and west bound lanes. Both lanes of westbound 401 are now open. Eastbound lanes will remain closed until damage to the road surface is repaired and debris is removed.
An eastbound detour will continue at Highway 401 at Long Beach.
The investigation is continuing.
