(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Wednesday December 03, 2014, shortly after 6:30 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to the report of a vehicle the ditch along Perth Line 86 west of Molesworth.
Officers attended the scene and found a Toyota Tacoma pickup on its side in the north ditch along Perth Line 86. Officers were unable to locate the driver of the vehicle. Officers did locate two shot guns in the snow beside the truck.
More than an hour after officers had arrived at the crash scene the owner and driver of the truck contacted police from a residence in Listowel. The male driver attended at the North Perth OPP Detachment in Listowel shortly thereafter. The male driver had not sustained injuries as a result of the crash.
Seupersad SOOKOO (56) of Toronto has been charged with “careless use of firearm contravention of storage regulations†contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He has also been charged with “fail to remain†contrary to the Highway Traffic act of Ontario. He is scheduled to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel on January 14, 2015, to answer to these charges.
Firearm owners are reminded that when transporting non-restricted firearms they must be unloaded. Restricted and prohibited firearms must be unloaded AND made inoperable with a secure locking device AND locked in a sturdy opaque container. The bolt or bolt carrier must be removed from automatic firearms if it is removable
