(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On Wednesday August 6, 2014 at 8:23am Thunder Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers in Upsala stopped a passenger vehicle on Highway 17 east of Upsala near Sawmill Bay Road for speeding. The roadside investigation revealed approximately 168,000 contraband cigarettes in the vehicle.
Police seized the cigarettes and charged the 66-year-old male driver identified as Larry RAMSAY from Beauvallon, Alberta with the following offences contrary to the Tobacco Tax Act:
Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes for the Purpose of Sale contrary to section 29(1)
Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes contrary to section 29(2)
The accused was released August 6, 2014 and is scheduled to appear in Thunder Bay Provincial Court on October 10, 2014.
