(THUNDER BAY, ON) The Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to remind motorists to drive with extra care and caution as we prepare for a winter storm in our area. According to Environment Canada, the storm will begin sometime today (April 24, 2014), continue overnight and into tomorrow.
Poor visibility and strong winds may provide for hazardous driving conditions in the Thunder Bay area. Weather conditions may change quickly and unexpectedly as a result of winter storms and wind gusts causing reduced visibility. Driving defensively, reducing your speed and adjusting your following distance will assist in reaching your destination safely. Always exercise caution when driving and consider postponing travel until weather conditions improve.
For up to date road conditions, do not call the OPP. Ontario 511 provides 24 hour information on road conditions, as does the Ministry of Transportation.
The OPP reminds motorists to watch for emergency responders and to move to the left when safe to do so.
Please be a safe driver, slow down and drive with caution in poor weather conditions.
