THEFT MOTOR VEHICLE

On October 22, 2014 at approximately 5:45pm, Waterloo Regional Police began an investigation after receiving a report that motor vehicle had been stolen from a business parking lot near Union and King Streets in Kitchener. Over the next 30 minutes there were several dangerous driving complaints received involving the stolen vehicle. The stolen vehicle, a Cadillac CTS, was eventually located in a parking lot on Westwood Drive in Kitchener by police. An officer approached the car and located a male in the driver’s seat. During an attempted arrest, the suspect began ramming a police cruiser and a retaining wall, striking the officer. After ramming several vehicles, the suspect managed to escape and abandoned the vehicle in a nearby parking lot. With the assistance of several witnesses the suspect was located inside an apartment building and taken into custody. There were no significant injuries to the involved officer. A 40 year old Kitchener male of no fixed address has been arrested and held for a bail hearing facing charges of Theft of Motor Vehicle, Possession over $5000, Dangerous Driving, Criminal Drive Suspend, Fail to Remain, Aggravated Assault with a weapon on a Police Officer.
