Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are currently investigating a theft from a vehicle in a private driveway on West St, in Belmont, ON.
At 2:08 am on Sunday September 14th, 2014 the homeowner of a West Street residence heard noises out in front of his home. The homeowner looked outside and saw a white, possibly a 2013, 4 door Chrysler 200 parked in the middle of the road with the rear passenger side door open. The homeowner observed a chunky white male with blonde hair return to the vehicle and get in the open rear door. The male suspect appeared to have been carrying a black case of some sort.
The homeowner grabbed a flashlight and shone it on the vehicle which then fled south on West Street, east on Copeland Street, and then south on Belmont Road. No licence plate number was obtained. The homeowner did however observe that there were 3 or 4 males in the vehicle.
The homeowner attempted to follow the suspect vehicle but lost sight of it. He and his son then checked around the Belmont area but were unable to locate the vehicle. Police were not contacted to report the incident as witnesses believed police could not do much without a licence plate number.
At about 10:45 am on this same date, the homeowner across the street from the residence where the homeowner observed the white vehicle discovered that an 18 volt cordless Milwaukee drill with black case and charger and a Milwaukee flashlight totalling approximately $500 had been stolen from the bed of his pick-up truck.
While outside inspecting his pick-up truck the homeowner spoke to his neighbour across the street. The neighbour spoke about seeing a suspicious vehicle and giving chase. At 11:10 am the owner of the pick-up truck contacted the OPP to report the matter.
