Suspended Impaired Driver Arrested For Hit And Run

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Norfolk County detachment along with the assistance of Canine Services and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) have charged a 43-year-old male with Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences after failing to stop for police.

On Thursday, January 21, 2016 at approximately 2:42 p.m., officers were on patrol in the area of Brant Road 4 and Windham Road 10 when a vehicle attracted the officer’s attention. Police attempted to stop the vehicle however the driver failed to stop.

The vehicle continued to travel eastbound on Concession 10 at which time the vehicle left the roadway and entered the south ditch. The driver of the vehicle fled from the area on foot and was last seen heading southbound behind a residence.

Canine Services and members from the Emergency Response Team arrived on scene and began to complete a search of the area. The driver of the vehicle was subsequently located and taken into custody without further incident.

As a result of investigation, police have charged 43-year-old Clinton Shayne WALSH of Norfolk County, Ontario with the following offences.

· Driving while impaired

· Driving over the legal limit

· Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose

· Driving while under suspension

· Fail to remain

· Fail to stop for police

· Class G2 licence holder – Blood Alcohol Concentration above zero

· Speeding

He is to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the charges.
