Suspended Driver Caught Using Dead Brother’s Driver’s Licence

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On January 21, 2017, members of the East Algoma Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., police observed a westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was initiated. Investigation determined the driver was using his deceased brother’s driver’s licence and he was a suspended driver.

As a result, Timothy SOUTHWIND, 62 years of age, from Sagamok First Nation, Ontario, was charged with:

Obstruct Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code;

Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and

Driver Fail to give Identification, contrary to section 33(3) of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on March 2, 2017.
